Mr President, I would like to draw the attention of this Parliament to the very disturbing and alarming reports that we are getting from Libya, where Prime Minister Ali Zeidan was kidnapped by an armed group early this morning. Fortunately the news is that he has now been released.

This illustrates how the situation in Libya is very fraught, with tremendous challenges. We Europeans can make a difference. I, as your standing rapporteur, spent last weekend in Libya, accompanied in context by our Head of Delegation, Mrs Nataliya Apostolova. I would just like to say that this is the moment for us to express our solidarity to all those in Libya who want a democratic future and the rule of law...
